Room 1 :: The Carrie Nation Room

Carrie Nation, a historic, well-known opponent of drinking alcohol, and her husband David were former residents of Holton. David was a minister at the local Baptist Church in the late 1890's. After the Nations moved from Holton, Carrie began her temperance movement against alcohol and returned to Holton to raid a local tavern. The tavern still stands -- it is now called Jack's and is located on the southwest side of the town square.

Room 3 :: The Menninger Room

The Menninger Room is named for Charles and Flo Menninger. The Menningers were married in Holton where Charles taught at Campbell College. The college was located where Holton High School stands today. When the college closed in 1913, Charles went on to medical school and opened the now world famous Menninger Psychiatric Clinic in Topeka, Kansas.

Room 5 :: The Edward Holton Room

The Edward Room is named for the founder of Holton, Kansas.  In 1855 Edward Holton, an anti-slavery gentleman, financed a wagon train from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to this area. He brought with him six wagons of free state advocates, hoping to vote Kansas into the union as a free state. To thank
him for financing the trip, the new Kansas citizens named the area after Mr. Holton.
